My Crappy Work Ethic & Camping

Things are picking up at work, so I've has little time to blog and read blogs. :( (Wait, some people do the blogging thing OUTSIDE of work? When!?)

I've also come to the conclusion that while I rocked at the school thing - standardized tests, exams, papers and all - graduating with a 3.88 GPA in college, I SUCK at work. I have no desire to work hard or exceed expectations. I thought maybe if it was the right workplace I'd be more inclined to work my butt off. But, honestly, I just don't want to stay overtime and get brownie points for working until 7pm. NOT ME. I loved school, because I could do work when I wanted to, but work? Not so much.

I love to work at home - making dinner, baking bread and muffins, cleaning, and other such domestic-y tasks. Much to my femin-ish (somewhat feminist, although apparently I'm a bit of a farce) dismay, I admit those tasks are what I enjoy doing most. Truth be told, the only things I'd miss about working are dressing nicely (I've come to quite enjoy this!) and social interaction. I love the people at work. That's all.

It's a problem, and I'm not quite sure what I should do about it. You know, aside from fantasizing-slash-idealizing about being a housewife/mom and being a domestic goddess.

Anyhow, I digress. This weekend holds a bevy of fun family times - camping in a state park with several dozen family members.

I've included some pictures from the LAST family vacation - last July my four siblings, parents, and I headed to San Fran for the last vacation before I dragged the lovely man known as Mike into our family. :) It was a great way to bond with my fabulous sisters.

Lovely sisters. I never feel short around them. It's great.

So have a great weekend, friends. I'll be hanging out here:

Doing a great deal of this:

See you!

  2. omg i feel the EXACT same way. seriously i fel like when i get to work i am useless. i feel so lazy. i hate staying late. i never knew i was this way until i graduated from college and got a real job! and every job i havne had since i have liked, but just never put that much effort into. then i get home and i am cleaning, doing laundry, cooking, etc, and i love it! i work so hard at home and feel so happy! i'm glad i'm not the only one out there. i would love to be a housewife, but i also know i would eventually get bored and would need some sort of part time job or like a job where i can work from home- wouldnt that be ideal!?
anyway- such a fun weekend you have planned! i'm so jealous!! have a fabulous time!

  3. sounds like you are going to have a blast this weekend - enjoy! =)

and as for the whole work ethic thing? yeah, i don't have that. i'm hoping it'll kick in when i start a job in the industry i'm looking for a career in. actually, it damn well better kick in then. as for now? i'm completely satisfied getting as in all my classes at school, and coasting by at work. hm. that probably isn't great now that i think about it..

  6. I'm hoping that once I'm done with teacher's college I'll have a job that I love and be totally motivated and inspired... unlike my job now where I feel completely unmotivated the majority of the time.

Love your sisters picture! Sisters are the best, I have four of them.

  7. Hope you're having fun!

As for work, well, IMO there is some satisfaction in a job well done. OTOH, if there's no incentive beyond not getting fired, that's a bummer. You've seen "Office Space," right?

I'm in just about the same boat as heymic--can't wait to see what's on the other side of school. Right now I'm with a bunch of slackers who just come to the office to party and leave the hard work to dummies like me who have standards. And even I'm at the point where I surf the 'net half the day b/c there's so little to do--I could be home taking care of things, like blogging. I blog after work--I don't want to sign in on the office PC.

  8. I hope you had a fun weekend, that looks like a blast! And I think I have a similar work ethic--now that I'm back in school I don't feel like I've ever worked this hard, but when I was in an office, all I wanted to do all day was blog and shop online. It is a quandary.

  9. Ok, I love that you admitted that your feelings about work without worrying that you would sound lazy -- shhh! here's a secret - I feel the exact same way! Except, I don't really love housework like you. Dangit! I need to find something I'm not lazy at! ha. man oh man. If being a housewifey is really what makes you happy.. hopefully one day this can be a reality for you! Have fun camping! Can't wait to see pics! Oh, and you and your sisters are so cute!

  10. The worst thing about working from home is that I don't get to wear my cute office clothes anymore!

All the other benefits, though, are SO worth it. :)

  11. Like you said, I definitely feel like I am reading my journal on your page as well! I love my job, have really no complaints to speak of, but sometimes I just want to, as you say, be a domestic goddess. Sometimes I feel super guilty at work when I get caught up online, but like you said, my blogging hours are limited. I did just discover google reader (late I know), so that should help. Thanks for making me feel a little better. ;)

  12. Aww, I hope you had a great time!

My work ethic is bad only when I'm getting up in the morning. I absolutely ADORE my job, but I hate getting out of bed. And sometimes, I dream about being in college again since I could sleep 'til noon then.

  13. I feel the same way about my work! I am still in college, but have been interning full-time during the summer and part-time during the year. I have been at this particular job for over a year and I never have work to do! Like my bosses give me work occasionally but I feel like a complete waste of time.

I hope I find a job that keeps me engaged and wanting to work late!
