- The economy sucks. Joblessness is high. Etc, etc.
- Lots of stuff we buy is made in China or other developing nations.
- I spend too much money at Target.
- Instead of spending $25 this month at Target or [insert your big box chain store of choice here] on random clearance items, little nick knacks, and things we generally don't NEED, spend that money on Etsy or local shops and artisans.
- Tell me you want to participate and I'll create a list in my sidebar of participants.
- Take the badge from my sidebar and put it on your website.
- Blog about your purchase.
- Get excited about your cute new earrings, wallet, camera strap, scarf, whatever!
- More money goes to a person, not some CEO. Independent artists and shops rule.
- Made in the USA (or where ever YOU live). Yay. Sweatshops suck.
- Etsy sellers are totally more cool than the big guy. (When was the last time Target gave you a freebie in your shopping bag? Or friendly emails? Seriously. I got candy hearts and stickers with my last Etsy purchase. Lovely.)
- Economy is happier.
- You are happier.
- You get to be in my sidebar.

And check out Etsy and Jamie's awesome shopping blog!
PS: You can spend as much or as little as you like - I just want to encourage you to check out Etsy and local shops.
PPS: No, this isn't just a scam to get you to buy my stuff. Seriously! I really believe in Etsy and how awesome it is.
PPPS: February is here. And I'm still going strong with Operation Happy. Yay. (And Operation No-Leg-Shaving, but that's another, TMI story.)
Ooo! Fun!! I'm totally in! :D

I actually just bought something from Etsy the other day. Yay!! When I get my little purchase, I'll be sure to blog about it. I heart Etsy. Like, a lot. :)
ReplyDeleteNow, if only they sold things like razor refills and cat food, I really wouldn't have to go to Target! lol
This is REALLY cool, but can I do this AFTER I check out Target to see if they have the new Orla Kiely houseware stuff?

Pleeeeease?
Cool challenge, but sadly, I am not even in a position to spend $25 at Target on random nick-knack/clearance/whatever items, and thus I don't have the money to spend on Etsy stuff (oh how I wish I did!). I've really had to cut back since my savings is depleted from buying a house! I will sit this one out but I drool over Etsy stuff a lot at work, does that count?
ReplyDeleteI'm in!

I spent 17 bucks on Jan 30 at Target. And I love the Milanos and book and lip gloss I got.
ReplyDeleteBut... I am up for the challenge. In fact, I made a 17 dollar purchase at Etsy just tonight!

I'll do it on both my blogs if you want :) Write back and I'll share that address too! (I'd just rather not link it because it's got my real name and then that's searchable!)
I'm definitely in especially since I LOVE Etsy and any excuse to shop there. Etsy has its own button link next to my email and bank, that is how high it ranks to me.

I was just thinking that I've never purchased anything off Etsy and how much of a shame that is!!
ReplyDeleteI have purchased a number of things from Etsy in the past. And what I love about it is you forge a relationship with the actual artist, not some customer service rep or even worse, cashier. (Not that there's anything wrong with cashiers...)
ReplyDeleteCount me in.
Just bought my boy's valentine's gift on Etsy... and a prize for my blog giveaway. I'm so in.
