Worth it Wednesday: More Target Bashing.

The following is a part of a new feature here. Blogs and the internet greatly influence what I buy and where I shop. Buying something that ends up ineffective is one of my pet peeves - so getting a recommendation from someone honest and real is always a welcome occasion. I avoid being completely materialistic, but consumerism is part of life for most of us. Buying things that work and that you love avoids wasting money and products - I'm sure I'm not the only one who's bought a product that ended up not working and got shoved to the back of the cabinet, unused.

I want to spread the news about wonderful services and products to you all - and for you to do the same. Post this on your blog as well! I'd love to hear about what works for you.

worth it

I feel like we’re starting to get to know each other better. In all honesty, I feel pretty comfortable with you – if you lived in my neighborhood, I’d totally be okay with coming over to your house, hopping up on your counter and grabbing some Pringles out of your cupboard to snack on while I talked to you.

It’s this comfort that allows me to talk with you about my intimate garments. That’s right, ladies (or Ben (hi Ben!)– the only male here, oh, ever.), I’m talking about bras. For 23 years (or, 11 years. I wasn’t BORN wearing needing to wear a bra, after all. And if we’re being frank, I probably didn’t even need to start wearing one when I was 12. My younger sister did and I think my mom felt bad for me. Whatever. I’m not bitter or anything. Anymore.) Anyway, for 23 years, I shopped Target’s clearance racks for bras. They never quite felt right, always a little too stiff or didn’t fit well.

Then, one day, I decided to give the Queen of Underwear a call and asked Vicky what she had in the way of bras. And, Oh. My. God. My life has been changed.

VICTORIA’S SECRET IPEX BRA

Worth: $45 for the demi, which is what I have. [I got both mine on clearance, though, so they were more around $20-30 a piece.]

Works For: Anyone with boobies. Sizes 32A-38DD.

What I Love: Beside a perfect fit, the silky feel means it won’t ever show under a shirt. It feels WONDERFUL to wear. There’s not tugging or riding or shifting. Just pure amazingness. Plus, it’s the perfect amount of thickness, in my opinion – just thick enough to prevent, eh, exposure, but thin enough to not feel like you’re wearing armor. (Obviously this is super subjective. Some people LOVE a good push up bra. I am not one of those people, at least not daily!)

What I Wish: It’s so darn expensive! I only have two so far and rotate them all the time. But I’d rather have ONE of these bras than THREE Target rack clearance bras. For real, that is how wonderful they are. (I love Target, but sometimes it pays to get something quality. And coming from a frugal freak like me? You know it’s true. Promise.)

Now if only I could find a sports bra that lasted more than a few months...

  2. I love Ipex bras. I recently bought two new ones--one in red and another with lace. I have tons of bras, all from Gap and Victoria's Secret. I tend to buy them (and cute underwear) compulsively. The bad thing is, my husband encourages this!

  3. Oh I love love love V.S. bras and panties and their smelly spray. Since purchasing my first V.S. bra I can't go anywhere else, they just aren't the same. Yay for boobie talk. hahaha

  4. Hm, I've found that VS bras are really made for the more busty ladies of the world, but I'm happy to give it a shot. Anything for a bra that will just fit without major gappage :(

  5. I love that you posted this because I am in need of new bras!! :) I rotate like 3 bra's (think they are all from VS), but after 3-4 years...they have seen better days!

  9. Gap has some really good bras...that's usually wear I buy the majority of mine!

  10. I usually buy mine from Gap Body -- because usually VS bras have WAY too much padding for my taste but I recently bought the angel's bra (I think it's called?) and I love it! I had a coupon so it was only $35. Def worth it! OH man ... I LOVE the image you drew -- WAY better than posting an actual VS model. You're the bestest!

  11. p.s. Awww... that's cute you checked out John's Web site! I hadn't checked out his FAQ in a while and I have to say, yep, he's a funny one. ;) heee. And yes, he really likes his job as a graphic designer. He's been at the same place for about four years -- CRAZY! The design firm he works for does about 99 percent of their business with orthodontists so he's always designing logos that have to do with teeth! You should go into graphic design! Go for it! How's your class going btw?

  13. I am particularly partial to Barely There "Comfy Support Wirefree" and their "Invisible Look Underwire." They are really great for not sacrificing comfort for good shape and run about $30.

  14. bras are definitely one article of clothing worth spending good money on.
i looove the good victoria secret bras.
and the same with sports bras - you'll never regret getting one that's more expensive. they last a bazillion times as long, and feel way better when you;re wearing them.

  16. Yep, I love the Ipex bra. I love, love, love it.

Okay, apparently today I'm going for some sort of record on how many times I can say 'love' in one comment.

But really? It's the best bra. Perfect under anything and it's SO SMOOTH!

  17. VS discontinued the Angels uplift that I love and need to retire after three years--thinking about trying the Biofit but will check out Ipex, too. Don't know how you feel about credit cards but the Angels card gives lots of benefits, esp. if you buy a few bras b/c that adds up the points. Which reminds me, I think I get a birthday coupon this month!

  19. God I hate bra shopping, I usually end up feeling deformed when none fit properly, even though I have been measured oodles of times and they swear it's my size. I am not sure if we get VS range over here, but I will go Google and see, because it's worth a try to feel comfortable. I wish bras weren't so expensive though, but I will pay it if I have to. I suppose manufacturers know that.

  21. Your paint drawing cracks me up, genius! and very well done

  22. Hmmm, I hated the Ipex bra. The size I normally wear didn't fit me and then I was told that they run a little small and most people have to go a cup size up. How does that make sense? Isn't it supposed to be designed specifically for my cup size?

  23. Haha. I totally feel you. I didn't need a bra probably 'til I was 12, too. And VS has been one of my favorite places for a long time simply because they have my size in cute bras, not just granny-ish ones.

I wish they were less expensive, too, but I stock up whenever the Semi-Annual Sale rolls around. It's awesome.

  24. I'm a fan of the Very Sexy bra at VS. I have never found a bra I like as much and as long as they keep making them, I'll be a customer for life.
