Days 6 & 7: Zion and Vegas. Wonderfully Crazy.

Zion National Park was one of the most gorgeous places I've ever been - hands down the most gorgeous place I've been (aside from Hawaii) in the US.

Don't believe me? Check it out:

Sunflowers in Zion.
I feel like this is an ablum cover for a band of sunflowers. Or..maybe I'm just a weird kid.

The Narrows.
We were there for only 24 hours, so we hiked just a bit of the Narrows - a river that is between the canyon walls. Thank goodness for my new Keens. They were AWESOME.

At the Top of Angel's Landing.
We hiked HIGH. 1,488 feet to be exact. 5,785 feet above sea level. Yeah, be impressed.

(I was sweating like crazy and may have almost died from leg soreness the next day.)

Zion is Sexy.
Zion is sexy.

I'm totally printing and framing this sucker. And putting it at work so when I feel sad about being in front of a computer slaving away to the (wo)man, I'll remember this feeling of freedom.

After spending the day in Zion, we binged on pizza and drove to Las Vegas...where we stayed in a NINETEEN DOLLAR hotel room.

And it was gorgeous! Super loud due to it being right about the Fremont Street Experience, but it had a huge TV, an iPod dock on the alarm clock, and the decor was adorable.
Nineteen Dollah.
Nineteen! Can you believe it?

He's Got Skillz.
While in Las Vegas, I determined that Asian folks are the ones who have all the unbelievable talent. Where can I sign up to get some of those skills? I mean, really.

Vegas was intense, that's for sure. The amount of excess and over-the-topness - in sexuality, debauchery, and luxury was overwhelming. I was torn. One minute, I loved it. The next, I was annoyed with it. The next, I was amazed. The next, I was disgusted. I'm really glad I went - but I definitely don't need to go again for a while.

New York, New York!
New York, New York (I met a guy who was wearing a Dayton Flyers shirt staying at that hotel. You know I totally talked to him. Go Flyers!)

We are TV Critics.
The coolest thing we did in Vegas was review a TV pilot - it was a crazy weird drama about cops and 'roids and corruption. Good times.

You couldn't dream of a prettier sky.
After an interesting afternoon in Vegas, we drove to Los Angeles where more excitement awaited...

  1. Gorgeous photos! Sounds like you two are having an awesome time. And that hotel room? 19 dollars? Crazy! It's so pretty. When you said 19 dollars I was thinking dirty hostel, of which I have experience too much of.

  2. Whenever I see someone with a Michigan State shirt or bumper sticker or whatever, I get really, really excited. Because, you know, that's my people!

I'm glad I'm not the only person who gets excited about seeing someone else from their alma mater. :)

  3. These pictures are amazing! I want to be on that vacation, too!!

  4. Ohhh Vegas is so fun if you're with the right people. My friends and I are planning our 2nd annual trip this spring. :)

Can't wait to hear about LA. I'm sure it was amazing!

  5. Oh my gosh, this looks amazing! And I hear you on Vegas. My thought is that it's a city built almost entirely on the appeal of boobs.

  6. Zion has to be hands down, the most beautiful place I've ever been! My mom and I were just talking about that last night when I told her that you guys had been there, she drove us all over the US for random roadtrips and she couldn't stop raving over the beauty of Zion. I want to go back!!
It's crazy how cool that hotel was for 19 bux!! SCORE!

  7. These pictures are so cute! I'm going to Vegas next month and have never been there, but I assume my reaction will be like yours.

  8. I'm loving your updates - the pictures are INCREDIBLE.
Such a lovely journey for you two!

  9. Totally have to agree about the sunflower band :) I think the reason I have yet to go to Vegas since it's so close, is because of what you described: one minute I'd be disgusted, then the next I'll be amazed, and back and forth. Probably more disgusted than amazed ;)

PS, it was so good to see you!!!! The husband is super nice too!

  10. I've been to Zion and its BEAUTIFUL! I would love to go back and experience it as an adult... I went when I was a kid!

  11. Wow what a trip! Great pictures, as always :)

    New site:

  12. wow...I've never heard of Zion but it has just been added to my "must-visit" list of places.

incredible pictures and I love how you are documenting this!

  13. Oh, I love Zion SO much! So glad that you also adored it. Your pictures are so beautiful! They make me want to go back now!

And that hotel room IS super cute! I'm very impressed! I thought that for $19 it would just be like a downgraded Motel 6 but I love the pillows on the beds & the curtains! And an ipod dock! Nice!

Yeah, Vegas is nuts. It's pretty intense. Awesome + disgusting sounds about right!

  14. Those nature photos are amazing and beautiful! Also very impressed with $19 hotel.

  15. these pictures just show its credibility . . what i'm feeling in it . . this is to encourage me to buy new one . .

  16. I'm a horrible commenter lately (what else is new)... but oh, I am LOVING your posts about the road trip!! Really, I'm just living vicariously through you. :)

seriously, it's so wonderful that you and Mike are doing this... think of the stories you can tell you kids someday! Awesome.

ps. could you BE any cuter???

  17. I also agree about the first picture being of a sunflower band. Perfect description.

I love Vegas despite its debauchery and lewdness and loudness. It is just so alive!

C'mon, leave a comment. They're the best part!
