Please Don't Tease Me for This, Okay?

In my pursuit of becoming a true domestic goddess, I've been hoping to plan my meals for a while now. This week, I finally got it together and took inventory of food in my fridge and pantry and used that as my starting point for meals. It means less food will go to waste, since I'm not just flying by the seat of my pants. (Ideally. We'll see how this actually goes.)

Ta-da, here's this week's dinner menu:

Monday: Whole wheat spaghetti with homemade pesto and salad.

Tuesday: Acorn squash soup (will make Monday night) and corn bread.

Wednesday: Vegetarian sloppy joes or chili (depending on my mood).

Thursday: Stir fry with veggies, tofu, and rice noodles. (I stir fry in olive oil, low sodium soy sauce, and a little toasted sesame oil.)

Friday: Out to eat or grilled cheese.

I'll have enough left over each night to bring as leftovers for lunch. Score.

PS: Check out this website for links to hundreds of other weekly meal menus.

  1. That's probably one of the best things you can do for both your wallet and to not waste food. I should really take that advice... cooking for one is tough, though!

  2. I won't tease you, I do the same thing. Well, maybe not decide which day I'll eat what, but plan 4-5 meals for the week and do my grocery shopping off of that. Otherwise I'll end up with a bunch of groceries that don't quite fit together for actual meals. I'm also attempting to make at least one new recipe a week.

  3. I need to do this, I suck at planning ahead food-wise!!!! (that's what happened when we had boxed mac n cheese for dinner the other night, hah!)

  4. That's awesome. Eco-friendly b/c you can do your shopping in one trip and cut down on waste. Plus you won't be tempted to buy lunch if it's already made. I've gone through phases of being very good about meal planning, and when I can get my act together, it's very effective.

And I might just steal some of your dinner ideas! Hmm. I really want to try veggie chili because John and I used to make frito boats ALL THE TIME! yes, we're 5 years old. ha.

  10. I waste so much food. It's my worst habit and something that I'd really really like to change about myself. I wonder if menu planning would work for me.

  11. i am seriously impressed. I've tried that, I even go to the grocery store with a list. But it never gets done. I might make it to Monday but then something always comes up for the rest of the week and nothing gets made. Will check out that link and see if I can be inspired to try again!

  19. I won't tease you because I do the same thing! It saves us tons of money on the grocery bills and takes the "what's happening tonight?" and "who's going to the store" talks down to a minimum.

  20. You've inspired me to take a look into my freezer so I can plan meals for the upcoming week. Whily my mom is coming for Thanksgiving, I need to get rid of some of the things in my fridge to make room!

  21. You are my idol.

If I had more than one-two dinners with my husband a week, I'd be all over this.

    Ahhhh, yes. Someday.
