Superwoman. For Real.

People are wonderful. They truly are. The number of kind, loving, wonderful individuals out there amazes me each day.

Toady, I am inspired by one of the college students I work with. I work with one-hundred college freshmen, and it can be quite frustrating at times. My emails are ignored, my phone calls avoided, and students don’t always live up to their community service requirements.

One student met her requirements before all the rest. One student actively participates and is the first to fulfil her obligations and do them insanely well.

That girl is my only student with a baby. She had a baby last year and still graduated from high school, which is an achievement in itself. Then she came to college, the first in her family.

She has no transportation, so she treks a mile through rain, snow, and wind to the rapid (our train) each day to come to school.

And she’s always upbeat and positive.

This girl, six years younger than me, is my inspiration today.

  1. So inspiring. She reminds me of my best friend, pregnant with her second kid, putting herself and her husband through college full-time. I just don't think I could do it...

  3. This is beautiful! My dad is the principal of an at-risk campus for high schoolers and he has so many beautiful stories like this. They give him the passion that sustains his love for his job.

    Thanks for sharing!

  7. Oh beautiful!

Can I be really corny? My grandma inspires me. She was divorced in the 1950s and worked on air in television while being a single mom before single mom's existed. She has a wardrobe like I've never seen (complete with pairs of gloves packaged and labeled in little bags), and has a wicked sense of humor. She's my favourite = )
