Sigh.
I'm searching for that balance of doing what I really want to do and taking a job because I need one - a job that is overwhelming, meaningful, and intense. Scary and exciting all at once. But I don't know if it's the kind of scary I want. Sorry, I know this is painfully vague. I can't really spell it all out here, but I'm seeking out friends and family to help me think through this process.
Job hunting always seem ridiculously exciting - the new opportunities! The change! Ooh! Ahh! But when it comes down to it...the risk is a little scary. (And by "little", you know I mean ohmygoshalot right?)
At least I have this guy. Whom I apparently can't help but take pictures of in the car. And who is going to be a professor some day and earn enough money that I can take care of little Mike and Ashley, design, and sew all day. In my yoga pants, of course. :) Thanks for putting up with my anxiety about jobs.
I'm right there on the job-hunting. We're moving in less than a month, and I have to start job hunting now. The problem is finding a job that is meaningful yet doesn't take up so much time that I can't do the non-paying things I love. A job that keeps me busy but one that I could leave easily if/when we decide to have kids. And something that pays well enough to make me think it's worth driving to every day. Is that so much to ask?
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
I'm job hunting too. I got into grad school this fall, but I'm deffering a year so Mr. Boyfriend can finis his master's thesis. Since I won't be starting school in the fall, my current job appointment ends June 15th...
ReplyDeleteIt is very stressful. It's hard to hang onto the hope and the potential for newness and excitment when the actual game of job hunting feels like just that- such a game! That and there is the constant fear that you'll end up (HAVING TO) settling for something less than perfect.
Anyway. Just letting you know you're not alone. Hang in there, you'll find something! :-) (AND, it's summer!)
At least you look cute? You do!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the job search. It can really suck the life out of a girl. Hang in there.
You seem like the nicest mean person in the world.
ReplyDeleteAlso - I know how you feel :(
Sorry about the job hunting. I just started to look too. I wonder why I can't just stay home and sew and create and cook. Oh well. Someday.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to you!
I agree with michellewoo - you seem like you would be the sweetest mean person.
ReplyDeleteI have just begun the job search/interview craziness. Thankfully, I have two parents who are helping make this process very easy and as stress-free as possible.
Although it doesn't completely quiet the self-doubts and personal freakouts I have during my own private time.
My mom always tells me to BE PATIENT. There will always be a path to lead you to where you should be.
Good luck sweetie!
Aww, y'all are so cute! You're lucky to have someone so wonderful to support you through this.
ReplyDeleteJob hunting is MAJORLY scary for me, too, and I know exactly what you're going through right now. I just want to hang out and take pretty pictures at my leisure. Apparently, it's not gonna be like that for now, but I hope some day, I can make that happen. Without the 'help' of a newspaper.
aw that picture is so cute. despite all the job searching i think you're right, at least you're figuring it out and you have a fantastic guy by your side :)
ReplyDeleteStarting job searching pretty much now. I have to find one by the end of the summer, or magically make enough with my Etsy shop to support myself. I'v thinking I might need a job. haha
ReplyDeleteOMG that picture of you two is adorable. Just beyond perfect. Don't stress about the job stuff either. It will all resolve itself.
ReplyDeleteMeeeep cute pic!!!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I had a couple of temp jobs that I knew were going to be over in a couple months (camp counseling, campaigning...) so job searching was always stressful and CONSTANT. Utilize who you now and let it all unfold. :-)

ReplyDeleteI agree--why aren't people paying you to sew/design and me to write novels (preferably in a house with a view of the beach)!?
ReplyDeleteJust trust that you are in the right place at the right time, always. Even if it feels, um, not so right.
I'm in the exact same position right now. Do I get a job to pay the bills or do I hold out for the job I really want? Eek!
ReplyDeleteIt's tough to reconcile dreams and real life--I'm very envious of people who manage to make that happen. I have a feeling you're going to be one of those people...
ReplyDeleteI have to start job hunting now that I've graduated and I'm not looking forward to it. Good luck to you! I think all of us job hunting need it!
ReplyDeletewell, keep on going! It seems like the Design field dosnt have much opportunities as bussiness admin for example... I've been lookin for a job for 5 months aprox
ReplyDeleteYou? Mean? No way Jose! Although people would sometimes tell me that and I would think - Not true! I can be a meanie! .... So, if you, dear, sweet, Ashley, want to be a meanie, be a meanie! I won't put you in a box! ha. This comment is making no sense at all! But I think you know what I mean, right? :)
ReplyDeleteLove that picture of you two love birds!
Thinking about you and your job search! xoxo
p.s. I'm going to go write a much better comment related to your job hunt on your most recent post. Ohmygosh, I'm so weird at commenting! haha.
